Tottenham head to Anfield for their English League Cup fourth round clash with Liverpool. Spurs cruised through the third round as they beat League One side Gillingham. The game saw Vincent Janssen score his first goal for Tottenham while Joshua Onomah and Erik Lamela made the score sheet and Christian Eriksen recorded a brace. Spurs are in good from having picked up only one loss in all competitions so far this season.
Tale of The Tape:
Spurs are winless in their past eight meetings with Liverpool in all competitions. Most recently Tottenham hosted Jurgen Klopp’s men at White Hart Lane for their first Premier League clash of the season in August. The game saw a late goal from Danny Rose and an excellent performance from Michel Vorm secure a 1-1 draw against the Reds who took the lead from a James Milner penalty.
The match tomorrow will be the eighth time the two clubs will meet in the League Cup, with Liverpool having won one of the previous meetings and Spurs winning four; the other two fixtures finished as draws.
Tottenham are still without Harry Kane as he is returning from an ankle injury but the striker looks on the mend as he returned to training last week. Toby Alderweireld is also not available after picking up a knee injury against West Brom, however Pochettino suggested in his pre-match press conference that the defender could be back for next weeks clash with Leicester.
Moussa Sissoko will also miss the match after the club accepted his charge for elbowing Bournemouth’s Harry Arter. The ban will also see him miss the clash with Leicester and Arsenal.
Pochettino also confirmed that Marcus Edwards twisted his ankle before Spurs’ clash with Bayer Leverkusen and will be out of action for the next six or seven weeks. The argentine also confirmed that Hugo Lloris will be rested, allowing Michel Vorm to start in goal.
Liverpool on the other hand have no new injury concerns but Klopp confirmed that Simon Mignolet will start in goal for the clash, while captain Jordan Henderson is suspended.
