Following a recent press conference, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke of his excitement regarding the upcoming Champions League campaign. “We are very excited because it will be my first opportunity to play Champions League football as a manager. This will be very exciting for me and for the players too.” It’s only the second time that the Lilywhites have featured in the prestigious competition – historically reaching the quarter-finals on their first attempt under Harry Redknapp in 2010-11.
Pochettino has insisted that his players will be more than ready when it comes to performing on the biggest stage in European football. “The Champions League is a big motivation for every player and, with respect to the Europa League, it is not the same. It is the top competition in the world and for that we are very motivated to play in it,” said the Argentine.
Due to a reduced capacity at White Hart Lane, Tottenham will be playing their Champions League games at Wembley stadium, something that Pochettino believes can only benefit his side. “For many players, it is their first time in the Champions League. To play at Wembley is another exciting opportunity for us, in front of 90,000 supporters. It will be a great moment for Tottenham and our fans.”
It would seem that both Pochettino and Spurs fans seem relatively confident regarding their upcoming Champions League campaign, where they’ll be competing in Group E alongside CSKA Moscow, Bayern Leverkusen and AS Monaco.
